Atkins, W. Archaeology, Underwater, Advameg, http://www.waterencyclopedia.com/A-Bi/Archaeology-Underwater.html

This site helped me answer three of my research questions and was therefore very helpful. The information I used most from this site is the information under the “Methods of Study” heading. This told me all about how to conduct an underwater excavation which helped me write my first body paragraph. This source was reliable as the author is a science and culture writer and the information corroborated with other sources.

Australasian Institute for Maritime Archaeology Inc, What is Maritime Archaeology?
http://www.aima.iinet.net.au/maritarch/aimama.html
This site gave me one piece of evidence that I found very important in my ‘How to conduct a underwater excavation’ paragraph and that was that archaeologists only want to excavate a site if it is under threat of destruction or if it can help answer important questions. This source is reliable because of the author of the article and also the information was supported by other sites.

Bahn, P. Renfrew, C. 1991, Archaeology: Theories, Methods and Practice, Thames & Hudson, London
This source helped me answer my questions of “What is underwater archaeology?” and “Who are some famous historians that use underwater archaeology? What are some of their discoveries?” This source didn’t provide me with much information that made it into my final essay however, the piece of evidence it did give me was very crucial for my overall argument. This source is reliable as the people who wrote it, Colin Renfrew and Paul Bahn, are British archaeologists that have written other books. I can therefore trust the information found.

Bruhn, R. 2006, Egypt’s Sunken Treasures, Archaeological Diggings, NSW
This source was extremely helpful in answering my “Who are some famous historians that use underwater archaeology? What are some of their discoveries?” and for helping prove my hypothesis. Franck Goddio and his discoveries became a major component in my essay and proving my hypothesis. His finds proved my hypothesis completely so it was very helpful. The information was reliable as the magazine is about archaeology and the information corroborated with other sources. The pictures in this article were also helpful and some are used on my website.
Crystalinks.com, 2009, Underwater archaeology,
http://www.crystalinks.com/underwaterarch.html
This site helped me with my “What is underwater archaeology?” “What are some challenges face with underwater archaeology?” and “How do you conduct an underwater excavation?” therefore it was extremely helpful. I had trouble trusting the site at first, as the URL, presentation of the site and lack of author didn’t seem legit, however, the information on the site corroborated with other information so it turned out to be a usable site.

Hirst, K. Sacred Cenote (Well of the Sacrifices) about.com, http://archaeology.about.com/od/archaeologic7/ig/Chichen-Itza/Sacred-Well--Chichen-Itza.htm
This site provided me with more evidence about the Chichen-Itza cenote and was discovered in it. The information helped me answer me prove my hypothesis as I could use examples from this to prove how underwater archaeology has helped tell us more about ancient civilisations religious beliefs. I already had a source but I wanted to corroborate it with another one and this site did that but also gave me more information. The source is reliable as the writer has been writing about archaeology for fifteen years.

Lambert, A. 2005, The Mary Rose: A Great Ship of King Henry VIII, BBC History, http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/british/tudors/mary_rose_01.shtml
This site gave me more information on the Mary Rose and because of the contradicting evidence I discovered between sites I had to do more research to discover the most common answers. For example, the year in which the Mary Rose was excavated kept changing between each site I went to. However, I did research on this topic and the year that was said the most was 1982 so I went with that. This site said that the year was 1982 so I know I could trust the information on this site. The author, is a historian so this makes the information more reliable.

Lambert, T. The Mary Rose, localhistories.org, http://www.localhistories.org/maryrose.html
This site gave me more information on the Mary Rose. Like I said before, I needed other sites to gain the correct answer as the answers varied between sites. This site also told me a lot about what was on board the ship which was extremely helpful when I began to write what the discoveries have told us about the past lifestyle and military contests of ancient civilisations, as I could use specific examples from this site. Overall, this site was extremely helpful and reliable as it corroborated with other sources.

UNESCO Courier, 1987, Ten great discoveries - in underwater archaeology, http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1310/is_1987_Nov/ai_6181054/
This website was helpful in giving me a lot of information on underwater discoveries such as Kingston Harbour, Mary Rose and the Chichen-Itza. This website was reliable as UNESCO stands for ‘United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’ and the information predominately corroborated with other sites. There were a few disagreements with other sites, which is predicted when studying ancient history, but in these cases I researched further on the debated facts and chose the answer that appeared more often.

Welcome to Portsmouth, 2010, Mary Rose, http://www.welcometoportsmouth.co.uk/mary%20rose.html
This site gave me a lot of information about the Mary Rose ship. Some of the information contradicted with other sources but the majority of the information was correct as I checked it against other sources. I also believe this site is reliable as the Mary Rose sank and is preserved in Portsmouth, UK so I believe the towns website would know a lot about the ship. This information helped me write my discoveries paragraph and also helped prove my hypothesis. Overall, this site was helpful and reliable for the most part.
